FLEABITTEN PRINCE was one of most challenging works of art I have completed in Charcoals. The finished original is a large and dramatic piece of art; 16"x 20", drawn on illustration board. This original art work is now available and will be a great addition to your fine art collection. I was compelled to draw the speckled coat of a Fleabitten Arabian after seeing a gorgeous photo that I later asked permission to use as reference by Ainslie Giles-Patel. I knew that what I hoped to show in my completed art would be difficult due to the very soft, black nature of charcoal pencils. The many speckles that flowed and ebbed with the horse's hair whorls would fade and darken as the muscles moved under the skin of the horse. and I was determined to use my knowledge and experience to capture the unique beauty of this unusual spotting. In addition, Arabian horses possess an ethereal beauty all their own. They float and fly and captivate you with their soulful eyes and sculpted faces. All of these details were critical for me to capture. I finished the work with strong darks in the background to accentuate the white Fleabitten coat of the horse. He was a Prince in my mind's eye, and I loved every moment of bringing him to life!
Just a little side note for the admirers of this Fleabitten coloration. It is very rare and very beautiful and does not appear until the horse is around 6 to 8 years old at which time the coat color will totally change. This coat coloration usually appears in Arabian horses who are thought to have a recessive gene. Breeders claim that foals who will develop this coloration will have a ring of white hairs around their eyes at birth.
I am confident that this art will reflect elegance and good taste in your home. Or perhaps it would be the perfect gift for your special horse lover family member or friend.
