Avalanche is an original charcoal drawing of a leopard spotted Appaloosa running in the snow, The strong contrasts of pure black and white and a full grey scale make this drawing particularly beautiful. I wanted the image of this horse galloping through the winter scape to convey the power of an avalanche, powerful, strong and swift. The original art (sold) was a large piece, 30 x 40 and was awarded Best in Show and a second-place ribbon in the two shows I entered it in prior to selling it. The art was challenging and fun to complete and I had a vision of the finished piece from the very start. Because of the size of the drawing, I worked both on an easel and put two tables together to have a surface large enough to complete the drawing. I was particulary drawn to the unique color and pattern of leopard spotting and paid close attention to rendering the strong blacks and whites of the horse's coat, mane and tail carefully crafting my hard and soft edges against the winter landscape.
The realistic style and strong color contrasts of black and white make this art unique and suitable for people who are passionate about powerful and beautiful horses. The original piece is hung with two of my other drawings both similar in power and energy in a private dining room of a lovely restaurant here in Georgia. Whether grouping this art with similar drawings in style and color; or displaying it in a bold matt and frame, it will make a statement of good taste in any room.
I am confident that this art will reflect elegance and good taste in your home. Or perhaps it would be the perfect gift for your special horse lover family member or friend.
